About Richard Hannon Racing
Richard Hannon took over from his father, Richard Hannon snr, in 2014 following a successful period as assistant trainer to his dad.
Hannon snr crowned a magnificent career by sealing his fifth trainers’ title a month before he announced his retirement at the end of November, 2013. A life rich in achievement saw him train more than 4,000 winners but he saved his best for last with a stunning final season’s haul of 238 winners and over £4.5 million in prize money.
It was all so different when he took over his father Harry Hannon’s licence in 1970 in a small rented yard at Everleigh in the heart of Salisbury Plain.
Picking up where his father had left off, Richard enjoyed a stellar first season in 2014 as he was crowned Champion trainer with the victories of Night of Thunder in the 2,000 Guineas and Toronado in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot offering a sparkling indication of what was to follow.
He backed up the following year with scintillating victories from Pethers Moon in the Coronation Cup, showing his diversity when it comes to training, and adding another victory at the top end for Night Of Thunder in the Lockinge.
Having had five years in the job, he has managed to gain Group 1 success every season with Billesdon Brook gaining a second Classic success in 2018 and Barney Roy taking victory in the St James Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot in 2017.
